Review: In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner

In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rose and Maggie. Siblings who share a true love-hate relationship.

Rose is the sorted one. A successful career and many many amazing shoes. Maggie is the wayward child. A child who enters the big bad world too soon, and too badly.

Rose does take care of her as much as she can, but how do you help someone who doesn't want to be helped?

Maggie doesn't make it any easier. She decided to fight the world right back; the world includes Rose.

Rose is battling a few demons of her own, as well.

I will refrain from spoilers, because this book is really well written and if you're reading this, do go read the book. It definitely deserves your attention.

I don't want to go too deep into what the sisters are like because that would also be spoiling it for you, in a way. Suffice to say that they are well written, nuanced characters. So are the supporting characters. You can visualise them, real people with real feelings.
You can feel the joys, the frustrations, and the feeling of helplessness that affects then in different ways, but binds them both irrevocably.

There is no relationship that can be more beautiful than what you share with your siblings. Because whatever shit you put each other through, you'll get past it - because you were there for each other when life put you through shit.

Beautifully written and worth a read.

Go for it.
